Tool: GePeTo

GePeTo stands for “Generative AI-based Personalized Guidance Tool.”GePeTo is a generative AI-based tool that delivers personalized feedback to MOOC learners, enhancing their engagement and reducing dropout rates.
GePeTo is a tool designed to complement the edX-LIMS system with the objective of improving the quality of feedback messages shown on learners' dashboards and sent via email. Unlike the previous approach, which relied on predefined text templates, GePeTo uses Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) to create personalized messages that are tailored to each learner’s actual data, making them more precise, understandable, and motivating.
The tool works by taking the data collected and processed by edX-LIMS, such as exercise performance, number of sessions completed, or time spent on different content types, and converting it into variables that are interpretable by the generative AI. Based on this, GePeTo produces three types of messages: one about identified learning problems, another based on predictions about course completion or dropout risk, and a general summary message with guidance. All generated texts are automatically validated to ensure their accuracy and appropriateness before being displayed or sent to learners. GePeTo is connected to a Generative AI server that currently uses a ChatGPT model.
Thanks to GePeTo, the generation of personalized feedback messages has been fully automated, without the need for human intervention, a critical feature in MOOCs, where managing thousands of learners makes individual intervention impractical. This contributes to improving learners’ sense of support, reducing feelings of isolation, and ultimately decreasing dropout rates.
In summary, GePeTo represents a significant step forward in personalizing feedback in large-scale online education environments, enabling more effective, human-centered, and data-informed learner guidance
