Workflow Management

The purpose of this project is the development of a workflow system for the dynamic management of a process hierarchy and the assignment of the management tasks that make it up, as well as the upkeeping of different kinds of information required for this purpose, providing the user with this information as needed. The main goals of this project are to allow redesigning the processes, to provide independence between computing applications and the processes that use them, and to reduce the specific training required from the users. The system is based on a hierarchical task modeling and a hierarchy of persistent objects built upon a relational database. The flow of processes is managed by processing events coming from users that are authorized to perform the processes. The project has been conducted in collaboration with the R+D department of Informática El Corte Inglés S.A. (IECISA), releasing a prototype of a workflow management engine used in InVesFlow, a commercial product marketed by IECISA.
